City Manager

Curt Walton was selected in 2007 by the Charlotte City Council to be the current City Manager. 

Walton is Charlotte's 14th City Manager responsible for administering the policy and decisions made by the City Council and overseeing the day-to-day operations of City government. 

Walton has been an Assistant City Manager in Charlotte since December 2002. Prior to that he was the City's Budget and Evaluation Director.

Charlotte is one of the largest cities in the country with a council-manager form of government dating back to 1929, where the manager reports to the City Council and the council votes on the manager's recommendations.

The City Manager ensures that all City services are delivered in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

City Manager Curt Walton has presented his recommended budget for FY 08-09 to the Mayor and City Council.  You can view it online, or read a summary of the recommendations.  

Charlotte City government is responsible for providing such services as Police and Fire protection, garbage and recyclables collection, water and sewer services, road construction and Neighborhood improvements, street maintenance, Transit,  Planning and Zoning, Neighborhood Development, Economic Development and operation of Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

(Services such as libraries, jails, parks and recreation, education and human and social services are the responsibility of Mecklenburg County.)
