Managing and acquiring property for our community
The staff of the Real Estate section acquires property for city projects and strategically manages the real property owned by the City.

  • Real estate acquisition
Land is required for right-of-ways, easements and encroachment agreements necessary for the successful completion of public projects such as roads, sidewalks, police and fire stations. This process takes place after the planning and design phases of a project are complete.  All property acquisition must be complete before construction can begin.

  • Asset Management
Just as it is in the private sector, real property assets have become increasingly important in the public sector.  Charlotte is recognized as one of the more innovative cities in the country to strategically manage real property assets in order to benefit the community and meet council-approved policies and objectives.
