Tryon Hills

A Neighborhood Improvement Project

In November 2006, voters approved $25,000,000 for neighborhood improvement projects including $4,000,000 for Tryon Hills. This project is bounded by Catalina Avenue, North Graham Street, West 24th Street and West 31st Street.

  • The neighborhood will receive improvements, but not limited to curb and gutter, sidewalks with ADA  wheel chair ramps, planting strips and storm water drainage.
  • Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities has the first phase of the Tryon Hills water and sewer replacement project in construction. Contact: Fred Hunter, CMU Project Manager at 704-391-5124.
  • The Storm water Division has a storm water improvement project in construction for Dogwood Avenue and Grimes Street.  Contact: Scott Hudson, Storm Water Drainage Specialist at 704- 336-3611.
 
 

Tryon Hills
This project will build new sidewalk, curb and gutter, and minor storm drainage improvements in the Tryon Hills neighborhood.

What's happened?
City Council awarded the planning contract to US Infrastructure  on May 14, 2007. The first public meeting was held on July 17, 2007 at Walls Memorial AME Zion Church. The October newsletter describes the first public meeting results. The second public meeting was held on October 30, 2007.  An update was mailed to residents in April 2008.

What's next?
The planning phase is near completion. The design phase will begin when the planning phase is complete.

Objectives:

  • To improve the quality of life for the residents of the Tryon Hills neighborhood
  • To provide new sidewalks and planting strips for pedestrians to walk safely through their neighborhoods.

Cost:  $4,000,000
Please note this figure includes all costs associated with the project such as planning and design, acquiring the right of way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits and landscaping.
