Newell-South Neighborhood Improvement Project
|
A 2010 Neighborhood Bond Project
The Newell-South Neighborhood project is bounded between North Tryon Street, Orr Road, Old Concord Road and West Rocky River Road. In November 2006, voters approved $25,000,000 for neighborhood improvement projects including $385,000 for the planning and design of infrastructure improvements within the Newell-South Neighborhood. Pending voter approval of the 2010 Neighborhood Bond, the Newell-South Neighborhood Improvement Project (NIP) will be allocated $2,000,000 in Neighborhood funds and will begin construction in 2012.
The project has reviewed existing infrastructure within the project boundaries to identify opportunities for infrastructure improvement and neighborhood revitalization. As the project nears completion of the planning phase this summer, the proposed roadway and pedestrian improvements include sidewalk, curb and gutter, new marked pedestrian crosswalks, and landscaping.
This project is also proposed to include coordination with a storm drainage culvert and a water line replacement project.
Objectives:
- Implement infrastructure improvements that will enhance the quality of life in the neighborhood.
- Use the public involvement process as a significant part of identifying and prioritizing the improvements to be included in the future design.
- Coordinate and collaborate selected infrastructure improvements with other City and County proposed projects / activities and funding.
- Maximize the value of neighborhood improvements through effective project management that ensures schedule, budget and quality requirements are met.
