A two-year project to value Mecklenburg County's tree canopy was completed by the Tree Commission and American Forests on March 8.  Scientific data about the tree canopy in each of the Mecklenburg County towns, the City of Charlotte, and Mecklenburg County was gathered through satellite imagery and aerial photography.  This data was then used to value the canopy for storm water management and air quality benefits.  As part of the project, each town, the city and county also received CityGREEN software that will allow them to further value, locate, plan for and manage our valuable tree assets.
