Warren Cooksey, a Republican, represents District 7 on Charlotte City Council.  He was elected in 2007 and is serving his first term on Council. He is vice chair of Council's  Restructuring Government Committee and  a member of the Budget and  Environment committees.

Before his election to City Council, Cooksey was a Council appointee to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Commission from 2000- 2007, serving on the executive committee from 2003 - 2006 and as vice chair in 2006-2007.
 
He received is bachelor's degree in History from Davidson College. He completed the E.A. Morris Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in 2006, a program to prepare North Carolinians to become active in public service, and was inducted as a Fellow of the Institute of Political Leadership in 1998.

Cooksey was a member of the Charlotte Convention and Visitors Bureau board of directors from 1998 - 2004, serving on the executive committee from 2000 to 2003 and as Chairman in 2003-2004.  He is a teacher in the League of Women Voters' Civics 101 program and was a member of the Charlotte Chamber's Legislative Agenda Task Force from 1998 to 2007. He is a member of Carolinas 2000 and served as secretary/ treasurer in 1997-1998. He was a community columnist for The Charlotte Observer in 2000.
 
He is employed with the Wachovia Wealth Management Group. His previous employment was with with First Union Capital Management Group, First Union Capital Markets Group and First Union Mortgage Corporation.
