Action: Staff will present information regarding the benefits and challenges associated with Mounted Patrol Units. The presentation will include the experiences of Mounted Patrol Units in other cities, the advantages and possible uses of a unit in Charlotte. This item is being re-introduced due to the lack of a quorum at the October 26 Community Safety Committee Meeting.]
2. Legislative Request

Action: The Committee will receive information regarding community safety related initiatives that may be included among the 2007 North Carolina - Legislative reports.
3. Hotel / Motel Ordinance
Staff Resources: Captain Diego Anslemo, Anna Schleunes
Action: In an October briefing to Council, staff detailed considerable problems associated with some hotels/motels, ranging from unsanitary and unsafe conditions to significant criminal activity. Council referred the issue to the Criminal Safety Committee for further discussion and the development of action steps. Staff will highlight gaps in local ordinances and possible legislative remedies.

Action: The Committee will be asked to endorse staff's recommendation for a proposed Pawn shop ordinance. Several options regarding punishment for non-compliance will be presented.
2. Homicide Task Force Report
Staff Resource: Keith Parker and members of the Homicide Task Force
Action: The Committee will have discussion with the Homicide Task Force, who presented their recommendations to Council on August 28, 2006.

1. Neighborhood Watch Program
Staff Resource: Officer Heidi Kimbell, CMPD; Cynthia Woods, Neighborhood Development
Action: The committee will receive a presentation on the City's Neighborhood Watch Program. Staff will provide information on the purpose of Neighborhood Watch, the number of communities participating and ideas for increasing participation. Information only - No action required.
2. Pawn Shop Ordinance

Action: Staff will present a proposal for an ordinance that would require pawn shops to take a fingerprint from any individual pawing an item. Information only - No action at this time.

Action: Staff will present information detailing how CMPD handles communications with towing companies. Information Only, no action.

1. Valet Parking

Action: Information Only -Staff will present an overview of the concerns with the city's current practices regarding valet parking. The Committee will also receive information about how other cities handle valet parking.
2. Road Race and Major Event Permit Process
Staff Resource: Brad Richardson, Emily Westbrook
Action: Information Only - Staff has received complaints from citizens regarding special events, such as road races, charitable walks, parades and festivals that require street closures. The number of these events that require police support also continues to increase. Staff will provide the committee with an overview of the concerns.
