What is a Public Document? A public document or "public record" is any document, paper, letter, map, book, photograph, film, recording, tape, electronic data-processing record, database, artifact, or other documentary material made by or received by a government agency. Any citizen can obtain copies of public records or information for free or for cost of reproducing the information.
