Countywide, emergency first aid services are provided by first responders from the Charlotte Fire Department and the Emergency Medical Services agency  (EMS Agency or MEDIC), volunteer fire and rescue agencies, and volunteer emergency medical technicians.  The EMS Agency provides pre-hospital paramedic level emergency care and transport.  See MEDIC.

Now Workforce Investment Act, a Neighborhood Development program that assists unemployed and underemployed Charlotte residents with job training and placement.  Services include basic and remedial education, occupational skills training, on-the-job training, child care, transportation and case management.

Engineering and Property Management oversees all major City construction projects.  It also handles the updating of the official City map and maintains public buildings and grounds.

The Charlotte Fire department responds to fires and calls for emergency medical assistance from 38 fire stations located throughout the city.  It also conducts fire prevention and fire inspection programs.  The department's specialized Hazardous Materials team is equipped to handle accidents involving hazardous materials.
