We Want Your Help
If you have a CO alarm story we want to hear from you! This includes any alarm activation. Tell us the story.
Our story includes some challenges regarding enforcement of the ordinance. Give us your thoughts on the following:
What is the best and most efficient way to address violators of the Carbon Monoxide Ordinance?
Discussion:
Strict enforcement of the ordinance would mean criminal action taken against violators. Education is the primary strategy currently in use to enforce the ordinance. However, chronic non-compliance will mean more stringent enforcement measures against these violators. Our goal with this ordinance is to PROTECT the public from Carbon Monoxide poisoning and exposure.
The roles of other departments and agencies are critical towards ensuring compliance with the ordinance. The Fire Department responds to alarm episodes but does not take corrective action. Agents involved with permitting new home construction could delay permits for failure to comply with the ordinance. The main challenge is enforcement at existing homes and businesses.
