Steele Creek Division

About Us

The Steele Creek Division comprises 60.6 square miles in the southwest section of Mecklenburg County. In addition to numerous residential, commercial and industrial areas, the Steele Creek Division also borders a large section of Lake Wylie.

There are  95 Officers, 3 Response Area Commanders, 7 Sergeants, 1 Investigative Technician and a Captain assigned to the division. Our office is located in the former Police-Fire Training Academy at 1750 Shopton Road, adjacent to the new Charlotte Police & Fire Training Academy.

The division is divided into three geographically distinct response areas.  Each has a Response Area Team that is responsible for reducing crime at the neighborhood level.  A Response Area Commander leads each team and serves as the area's primary police representative. The division also has a Focused Mission Team which the division commander is able to deploy strategically to be a proactive force in crime hot spots and to address emerging problems.  These focus mission teams report directly to their respective Response Area Commander.

The division operates three standard work shifts with two additional overlapping shifts. The majority of officers are assigned to these shifts, although the division operates a Lake Patrol.
