About Us
The Providence Division comprises nearly 17.6 square miles of historic and established communities including Myers Park, Cotswold, Grier Heights, Cherry, Dilworth, and the SouthPark area. We have 84 Officers, 3 Response Area Commanders, 7 Sergeants, a Captain, and an Investigative Technician. Several citizen volunteers also work in the division office. Our office is located at 3500-400 Latrobe Drive (near North Wendover Road and Monroe Road) in the Arnold Palmer Plaza Business Park.
Since February 2007, we've had a substation on the property of SouthPark Mall (4400 Sharon Road.), the result of a cooperative effort between Simon Property Group, owner of SouthPark, and CMPD. The construction and outfitting of the office was made possible by monetary donations and services from numerous businesses in the area and the SouthPark Chapter of the Chamber of Commerce.
The division is divided into three geographically distinct response areas. Each has a Response Area Team that is responsible for reducing crime at the neighborhood level. A Response Area Commander leads each team and serves as the area's primary police representative. The division also has a Focused Mission Team which the division commander is able to deploy strategically to be a proactive force in crime hot spots and to address emerging problems.
The Providence Division operates three standard shifts with one overlapping evening shift and one overlapping afternoon shift.
