Child Development Community Policing Partners (CD-CP)
CD-CP is a partnership between Mecklenburg County Area Mental Health Authority, Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to provide crisis intervention services to children who witness or are a victim of violence.  The primary aim of the program is to identify and treat these children to prevent a host of developmental problems, post-traumatic stress and fear resulting from exposure to violence at an early age.  Officers and social workers identify and visit affected families and children and work together to ensure treatment success and address parental or caregiver problems to help stabilize a household when necessary.  Yale University developed the program and it has been adapted in the district since 1999.  For more information on this program, please contact:

Gang of One
Working with the Community to Prevent the Next Gang Recruit

Resource-based Model
Gang of One is a resource-based gang prevention and intervention program designed to connect youth who are at risk of joining a gang or youth who are in a gang and want out with community resources that support their decision to stay out or get out of a gang.

Intervention Hotline and Resource Network
It begins with the 24/7/365 Gang of One Hotline (704.432.GANG/4264) that connects these youth and their families to resources in the community.  Agencies that partner with Gang of One become a part of the Gang of One Resource Network.  These agencies work with Gang of One youth, building their life, social, and critical thinking skills.  Through Gang of One, these agencies are able to provide youth with caring adults and positive programs.  They are able to intervene and make a difference.

But, wouldn't it be nice, if these youth were never affiliated with a gang or a gang member?  What if, together, the police and the community worked to prevent youth from ever joining a gang at all?  It can happen.
