About Us
The Independence Division comprises nearly 20.5 square miles of Mecklenburg County with a strong commercial presence as well as residential areas. Independence is located in the southeastern portion of Mecklenburg County. There are 76 Officers, 3 Response Area Commanders, 7 Sergeants, 1 Investigative Technician and a Captain assigned to the division. The office is currently located at 9315-G Monroe Rd.
The division is divided into three geographically distinct response areas. Each has a Response Area Team that is responsible for reducing crime at the neighborhood level. A Response Area Commander leads each team and serves as the area's primary police representative. The division also has a Focused Mission Team which the division commander is able to deploy strategically to be a proactive force in crime hot spots and to address emerging problems.
The division operates three standard work shifts with two overlapping shifts. The majority of officers are assigned to these shifts, although the division also operates a squad of division investigators.
