Update on Arrest of Paul Beaty

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Detectives from the South Division identified Paul Christopher Beaty in a series of commercial burglaries and obtained warrants for his arrests. This intelligence was shared with jurisdictions surrounding Mecklenburg County. Over the past two weeks Officers from multiple jurisdictions have conducted numerous operations in an attempt to take him into custody.

On August 21, 2008, Officers from the Gastonia Police Department located and arrested Paul Christopher Beaty on charges from Gaston County and Mecklenburg County. Detectives Swenson and Simono from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded and worked with detectives from Gastonia overnight in this continuing investigation. As a result, 19 additional breaking and entering warrants and 14 additional larcenies after breaking and entering warrants were obtained early this morning by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Detectives.  We are coordinating the service of these warrants with Gaston County, where Mr. Beaty is currently being held under a substantial bond.

CMPD thanks all of the surrounding law enforcement agencies involved in the search for Mr. Beaty and the seizure of his vehicle earlier this week.We will continue to fully cooperate with other agencies as we investigate other crimes possibly committed by Mr. Beaty.  In addition, we would also like to recognize the assistance of the local media in making the public aware of the fact that we were looking for assistance with this investigation.
