Suspect in Custody in Early Morning Homicide

Update:
  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide detectives have identified both victims in the overnight shooting at 100 S. Cedar St.  The victims are Kevin Javier Cano (DOB 1/18/1988) and Jamie Aubrey-Marquis Gill (DOB 11/19/1987); family notifications have been made.

In addition, earlier this morning Richard Henry Jordan Jr. (DOB 8/13/1979) was transported voluntarily to Police Headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide detectives.  As a result of the interview, Mr. Jordan was charged with two counts of murder in reference to the shooting deaths of Mr. Cano and Mr. Gill.  Mr. Jordan is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

This arrest was the result of collective efforts from various divisions and units within the CMPD:  Homicide, Robbery, Gang and Firearm Enforcement, Vice and Narcotics, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, SWAT, and patrol units from Hickory Grove and Metro Divisions.

November 7, 2008 12:24 a.m.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of two male victims at 100 S. Cedar St.   The incident occurred at approximately 12:24 a.m. on Thursday, November 07, 2008.  Detectives are currently working to identify both victims.

Central Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to shots being fired at the intersection of W. Trade St./S. Cedar St.  When officers arrived on scene they located both victims inside of a silver Chevy Impala who were each suffering from at least one gun shot wound.  Both victims were pronounced deceased on scene by Medic.    

According to preliminary evidence at the scene it appears that shots were fired at the victims while they were stopped at the intersection.  In addition to the victims' vehicle being struck by gun fire two CATS buses were also struck.  Based on preliminary witness statements, a vehicle that was occupied by two males was seen leaving the scene of the shooting. 

Crime Scene Investigations and Homicide detectives are still on scene collecting evidence.  Once both victims have been identified and family notification has been made their names will be released.
