Suspect Charged With Bank Robbery

Jerry Smith, 49, of Charlotte, NC, turned himself in to the CMPD September 14, 2007 and was subsequently charged with robbery (common law), a state felony charge, in connection with the September 13, 2007, robbery of the BB&T bank branch at 200 South College Street. 

On September 13, 2007, at approximately 9:21 a.m., Smith allegedly entered the bank and presented one of the bank tellers with a demand note, which indicated he was in possession of a bomb.  No weapon or explosive device was observed or displayed during the  robbery, and Smith allegedly fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.  There were no injuries as a result of the robbery. 

Smith is currently incarcerated in the Mecklenburg County Jail on a $50,000.00 secured bond.
