Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department ADW Unit are investigating a shooting at 727 East 17th Street. The victim, Cedric Jones, 2-2-1990, was shot multiple times in the pelvic area and transported by a bystander to Presbyterian Hospital, where he is currently in surgery. Mr. Jones is in stable/critical condition.
Officers with the Eastway Division responded to a call for service in regards to someone shot shortly before 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, January 13, 2009. Upon arrival, the officers secured the crime scene and began canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses. Initial indications are that the victim and suspect are known to each other and grew up together. According to initial witness statements, Mr. Jones was outside on the sidewalk along East 17th Street with the suspect. They had an argument and the suspect fired a gun at Mr. Jones, striking him once in the thigh.
Auto Theft detectives who in the immediate area of the shooting encountered the suspect as he walked along East 17th Street and placed him in custody. The suspect was transported to CMPD Headquarters to be interviewed by ADW Detectives. If the suspect is charged in this incident his name will be released by the Public Affairs Office.
