Update: Family notification has been made in the shooting death of a young woman at 1013 Franklin Avenue. The female victim has been identified as Charlotte Renee Williamson (DOB 12/26/1987).
Based on the preliminary investigation and statements made from Ms. Williamson’s boyfriend it appears that this incident is probably an accidental shooting. CMPD Homicide detectives will present this case to the Mecklenburg County District’s Attorney Office at a later date.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting of a young woman at 1013 Franklin Avenue. The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m., on Thursday, September 04, 2008. The woman has been identified; pending family notification, her name is being withheld.
A CMPD Highway Interdiction and Traffic Safety (H.I.T.S.) unit was flagged down by the woman's boyfriend while he was transporting her to a hospital. The boyfriend stated to the H.I.T.S. officer that he had shot his girlfriend. The H.I.T.S. officer escorted the vehicle to Presbyterian Hospital where the woman was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The boyfriend is being cooperative, and detectives are interviewing him at Police Headquarters.
Crime Scene Investigations will be processing both crimes; the incident site on Franklin Avenue and the vehicle that the boyfriend was driving en-route to the hospital. CMPD Homicide detectives are on scene at the shooting and are currently interviewing neighbors. This incident is in the early stages of investigation, and it has yet to be determined whether this is an accidental or intentional shooting.
