One of CMPD's Most Wanted in Custody

July 31, 2008

On Thursday July 31, 2008 the U. S. Marshals in Jacksonville, FL. located Raymundo Antonio Castaneda's and took him into custody without incident.  Castaneda was wanted for murder from a 12/23/08 slaying at 2440 Julia Avenue in Charlotte where he allegedly stabbed to death "DOE" Moises. 

On Wednesday July 30, 2008 a confidential tip was received by Crimestoppers that contained information on the whereabouts of Raymundo Antonio Castaneda.  The information indicated that Castaneda was currently hiding in the state of Florida to avoid being captured.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives contacted VCAT (Violent Criminal Apprehension Team) after obtaining the information from Crimestoppers.  VCAT, who had been searching for Castaneda since the incident, made contact with the U. S. Marshals Hornet's Nest Task Force to help facilitate an out of state effort.  The U. S. Marshals Hornet's Nest Task Force relayed valuable information developed by VCAT and CMPD Homicide to the local U. S. Marshals office in Jacksonville, FL. 

Raymundo Antonio Castaneda was arrested at a Wal-Mart in Jacksonville, FL. by U.S. Marshals personnel and task force officers.  He had been on CMPD's Most Wanted List since March of 2008.
