Murder Suspect Arrested

Marty Gaston turned himself in to homicide detectives this morning at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Headquarters. The CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team was actively searching Mr. Gaston. Mr. Gaston was aware that he was being sought and decided to voluntarily turn himself in to police.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives have signed a murder warrant for Marty Tarrell Gaston, 08-17-1971, for the murder of Larry Antonio Gaither. Mr. Gaston went to a party at 6701 Montezuma Trail and got into an altercation with the resident. Mr. Gaither attempted to intervene and got into an altercation with Mr. Gaston. Mr. Gaston shot Mr. Gaither at least one time and then fled the scene with a male who was driving a dark colored vehicle. Mr. Gaston was positively identified by several people in the residence.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives are currently investigating the shooting death of Larry Antonio Gaither, 20.

At 2:30 a.m. on Saturday October 11, 2008, Hickory Grove Division patrol officers responded to a report of a person shot at 6701 Montezuma Trail in Charlotte. Upon arrival officers located the victim, Larry Antonio Gaither 5/6/1988, inside the residence with at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center by Medic where he was pronounced deceased. The victim's family has been notified.

Homicide detectives are currently interviewing witnesses; at this time there is limited suspect information. The suspect is currently described as a dark skinned black male in his 30's, bald, 170-200 pounds with a beard, wearing a light colored button down shirt and blue jeans. He was seen leaving the scene in a dark colored vehicle. Based on the current status of the investigation this incident does not appear to be a random act of violence.
