Arrest Made in the Stillwater Neighborhood Shooting

Update: On Wednesday October 1, 2008, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide detectives signed murder warrants on Terrick D. Lumpkin (DOB 08-31-1985) for the murder of Mr. Vasquez. The incident occurred on September 29, 2008 at 11936 Chelton Ridge Lane in the Stillwater neighborhood.

The CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) had been actively searching for Mr. Lumpkin since the warrants were signed. At approximately 2:35 a.m. on Thursday October 2, 2008 CMPD SWAT and VCAT officers arrested Mr. Lumpkin at the Holiday Inn Express located at 14135 Statesville Rd. in Huntersville, NC.

Mr. Lumpkin has been taken to Police Headquarters where he will be interviewed by Homicide detectives.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives are investigating a shooting at the Stillwater Apartments in the South Division.  South Division officers responded to a shots fired call at 12:06 a.m. on Monday September 29, 2008.
Upon arrival officers located the victim, Joel Vasquez (DOB 4/26/1984), inside the residence at 11936 Chelton Ridge Ln.  Mr. Vasquez was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.  The victim's family has been notified of his death.  Another victim was also located on scene and was transported by MEDIC to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and is currently in surgery at this time.

Homicide Detectives are currently on scene canvassing the neighborhood for anyone with information about the incident.  Crime Scene Search units are on scene processing the crime scene for physical evidence.  According to witness statements the victims and suspects are known acquaintances and detectives do not believe this is a random shooting.
