Homicide Detectives Investigate Shooting Death of a Male on Sunset Rd.

Update:  The victim in reference to this incident on Sunset Rd. has been identified as David Obryan Barber (DOB 4/16/1985).  Family notification has been made.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating the shooting death of a male victim at 4516 Sunset Rd., the Citgo gas station.   The male victim has been identified; pending family notification his name is being withheld. 

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 03, 2008 North Division officers responded to a call for service at the Citgo gas station.  Upon arrival officers located the victim inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the gas station.  At first it was believed the victim was suffering from an unknown medical condition; however he had sustained at least one gun shot.  The male victim was treated on scene by Medic and transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. 

According to a witness statement, there may have been a passenger inside of the vehicle who exited the vehicle just prior to officers arriving on scene.  The passenger may have left the scene in another vehicle.  Detectives are working to identify the individual(s) involved in this incident and are processing the scene and interviewing witnesses.  Crime Scene Search responded to the scene and is collecting physical evidence from the victim’s vehicle and the scene of the shooting.
