The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is partnering with local businesses to offer two free document shredding and identity theft events to provide an easy way for area residents to properly and securely dispose of personal and financial documents.
On Saturday, February 9, individuals can bring their personal documents to the SouthPark Mall parking lot, in front of the Food Court near Dicks' Sporting Goods. Shred-it Charlotte will have its secure on-site mobile shredder there from 9 am to 1 pm. Police officers, Fraud detectives and Shred-it employees will accept documents people want destroyed. Watch as your documents are shredded so no one could retreive your personal information from them. CMPD Fraud detectives will also be on hand to answer questions and distribute identity theft brochures.
On March 8, during National Consumer Protection Week, CMPD and Shred-it will be at CompuTel, located at 1500 N. Graham St., from 9 am - 1 pm. In addition to paper documents, individuals can have electronic media and computer hard drives destroyed at CompuTel's shredders. Police officers, Fraud detectives and Shred-it employees will be here, also. Anyone with large quantities of paper or electronic media should call ComputTel, 704.376.1116, before March 8.
For more information about the February 9th event, call Shred-it, 704.424.5997 or visit www.shred-it.com. For the March 8 event, contact Shred-it or call 704.376.1116. For information on identity theft, visit www.cmpd.org or e-mail FraudMail@cmpd.org
