Free Shred-It Event on July 18

June 30, 2009

City Councilmember Michael Barnes will host a free document shredding event on Saturday, July 18, from 10am - 1 pm in the parking lot at Smokey Bones BBQ &Grill at 8760 J.M. Keynes Drive. The event will provide citizens an opportunity to properly and safely destroy and dispose of sensitive and confidential information and to learn how to prevent identity theft, a significant crime issue. Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit will be present to assist with shredding, answer questions and provide information on additional steps you can take to reduce your risk of becoming a victim of identity theft.

Shred-It will be the vendor and has requested that each participant limit the amount of material to 3 banker boxes, bags or totes. Boxes or bags should be in good condition to facilitate the shredding process. Shred-It can shred paper, CDs, file folders, staples, floppy disks etc.

Any questions regarding this event should be directed to Kimberly Pearson-Brown in the City Manager's Office, 704.336.2180, or to FraudUnit@cmpd.org.
