Update: Shanarld Lawrence turned himself in to Homicide detectives early this morning at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Headquarters. Steele Creek and Westover Division officers were actively searching for Mr. Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence was aware that he was being sought and decided to voluntarily turn himself in to police.

Update: On Thursday, October 16, 2008, Homicide detectives signed warrants on Shanarld Laverscott Lawrence (DOB 2/26/79) in reference to the Longleaf Drive shoooting. Mr. Lawrence has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and robbery.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit and ADW Unit are on the scene of a shooting at 2117 Longleaf Drive.  They are investigating the shooting of Tito Bartolo Walton, 01/09/1976.  Mr. Walton was shot one time and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Steele Creek Division officers responded to a shots fired call at 3:31, a.m., on Thursday, October 16, 2008.  Upon arrival they found Mr. Walton lying in the front yard of the residence at 2117 Longleaf Drive.  Mr. Walton was shot one time and received medical treatment on scene from the Charlotte Fire Department and Medic. 

Initial witness statements have described the suspect as a black male in his late teens, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.  He is about 5'4" tall and weighs about 200 pounds; he has short dreads and medium skin color.  The suspect may have fled the scene in a 1990's model gray Chevy Malibu.
