The Charlotte-Meckelnburg Police Department will host a "First Night" open house for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Explorer Posts Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Academy, 1770 Shopton Rd. Exhibits demonstrating the varied occupations available to someone in the field of law enforcement start at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.
Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for teens with an interest in law enforcement. Explorer Posts help teens gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on learning with lots of fun-filled activities that promote growth and development for those interested in law enforcement careers.
CMPD's program includes training in law enforcement issues found at the local, state, and national levels. The Ride-Along Program puts the Explorer in the patrol car with an experienced officer while on patrol. Explorers participate in regional and national conferences and other police-related competitions. There is an opportunity to attend the North Carolina Academy of Law Enforcement Explorers in Salemburg, NC, and other in and out-of-town events. Explorers also perform community service, and there are opportunities to receive awards and scholarships within the program.
