CMPD Seeks Citizen Input for Grant

July 26, 2007

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is due to receive $719,463 from the U.S. Department of Justice as its share of the 2007 Justice Assistance Grant appropriated by Congress.  The grant provides cities across the country with funds to improve law enforcement thorough personnel, overtime, technology, updated equipment, and crime prevention initiatives.  CMPD proposes to use its share of the funds for overtime for officers to do problem solving projects in neighborhoods; funding for the cadet program; development of a computer module to document problem solving activity; and equipment purchases including additional Segways.

The public is invited to make comments or suggestions on the use of the money for the next 30 days. Please direct those comments to Darrellyn Kiser at dkiser@cmpd.org.
