CMPD Investigates Shooting in Freedom Division

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide and ADW Unit are currently on scene and investigating a shooting at the intersection of Westridge Dr. and Weststone Dr.  The victim has been identified; his name is Marquiese Antonio Thompson (DOB 3/28/1991).  The incident occurred on Thursday, December 11, 2008 shortly after 6:30 p.m. in the Freedom Division.

Freedom Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to a person lying in the middle of the intersection.  When officers arrived on scene they located the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.   Medic arrived on scene and transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center.  Mr Thompson passed away in the early morning hours of December 12, 2008, due to injuries sustained during this incident.

Based on a preliminary witness statements; they advised they were driving through the neighborhood when they observed the victim lying in the street and then called 911.  Homicide, ADW, Gang and Firearm Enforcement detectives, and Freedom Division officers are canvassing the neighborhood for any witnesses to this incident.  Crime Scene Search units are on scene processing the crime scene for physical evidence.
