Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide detectives are currently investigating a residential burglary and homicide that occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 2412 Jefferson Davis Street in the Metro Division.

Metro Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to a residential burglary and one male victim being shot.  When officers arrived on scene they located the resident, Riccorian Lahaorris Smith (DOB 5/23/1979) suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and an unknown male who was deceased lying just inside the residence's front door.  The resident was treated on scene by CFD and Medic and was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he will undergo surgery later today.

Based on preliminary investigation and witness statements, two males entered the residence and a brief altercation took place.  As a result, the resident was shot and then gained control of the weapon returning fire and striking both suspects.  It is believed the second suspect fled the scene in a dark colored Dodge Intrepid.  He was later transported to Carolinas Medical Center and is currently in surgery.  In addition, police are looking for a third suspect who is possibly involved in this incident.
