CMPD Detective Receives 2008 Investigator of the Year Award

November 17, 2008

Detective Ernie Kirchin, Vice and Narcotics Division, was recognized by the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) as their 2008 Investigator of the Year.  Detective Kirchin has spent nearly 20 years assigned to the Vice and Narcotics Division and was the first Diversion Investigator in 1993.  Since that time he has worked thousands of cases and made a tremendous impact on the investigation, education and prevention of prescription drug abuse.

Captain Mike Adams, Vice and Narcotics Division, nominated Detective Kirchin for this award and referred to Kirchin as "a person who has feverishly investigated every case with the same resolve and tenacious effort for 15 years."  Ernie is seen by many as a pioneer in the field of drug diversion and sought after by other jurisdictions for his expertise in this field.  Ernie's commitment to diversion is steadfast and his resolve unmovable.  His credentials extend far beyond his expertise on diversion, for Ernie is a leader in the Vice and Narcotics Division and leads by example.  Detective Kirchin also provides training on drug diversion and prescription drug abuse to physician's offices, nursing agencies, school teachers, students, police officers, church groups, magistrates, state prosecutors, and various civic organizations.  Quite often this is done on his time and free of charge.  In addition, Kirchin is well supported by his family who "have been a champion of his work and supported his efforts to make our community safer."
