CMPD Adds A BEAR To Its Fleet

September 7, 2007

CMPD's B.E.A.R. (Ballistic Engineered Armored Response & Rescue) vehicle made its first official public appearance today.  This armored special response vehicle is used for personnel deployment and evacuation, bomb response and SWAT situations.

The lettering on the vehicle is reflective, as shown above, when headlights or other non-solar light sources hit it.

Made of military spec armor, the BEAR helps protect officers and improves preparedness for a variety of special tactical situations.

The vehicle was purchased with 2006 Urban Area Security Initiative Funds awarded through the Department of Homeland Security. Because of that, it's an asset available for deployment throughout the state.
