Arrest Made in Missing Person Turned Homicide

September 12, 2008

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide and Missing Person detectives have arrested Alan D. Simpson (DOB 8/15/1970) for the murder of Cindy Williams.  Her family has been notified.  Ms. Williams was reported missing by her daughter on August 10, 2008 who advised that her mother was last seen leaving her residence at 5214 Clearmont Ave. on August 4, 2008.

Missing Persons detectives worked closely with family members and close friends of Ms. Williams for several weeks after she was reported missing.  Through their investigation, detectives obtained information and evidence which indicated the possibility of foul play in the disappearance of Ms. Williams.  According to a witness statement he recalled hearing an argument and gunshots coming from inside Ms. Williams' residence on August 4, 2008.  The witness advised that he went to the apartment to check the welfare of Ms. Williams; however, Mr. Simpson answered the door and advised that everything was fine.

Based on the totality of circumstances surrounding this investigation, Missing Persons detectives requested the assistance from CMPD's Homicide detectives.  On Friday September 12, 2008, detectives served an arrest warrant for Mr. Simpson on charges relating to the fraudulent use of the victim's food stamps.  Mr. Simpson was transported to Police Headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide detectives.

As a result of the interview Ms. Williams' body was located a short distance from the victim's and suspect's residence at 5214 Clearmont Ave.
