Arrest Made in Alpha St. Murder

October 27, 2008

Update:  On Monday, October 27, 2008 Homicide detectives signed murder warrants on Saquan Earl (DOB 1/7/82) in reference to the shooting death of Mr. Childs.  CMPD Homicide Detectives asked for assistance from family members in attempting to locate Mr. Earl.  At approximately 8:30 a.m. Mr. Earl turned himself in at Police Headquarters where he is currently being interviewed by Homicide detectives.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to the lead Homicide Unit Detective.  Detective McFadden is the lead detective assigned to this case.  In addition, the public may call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Update:  The victim from the homicide on Alpha Street on 10/26/2008 has been identified as Darius Shannon Childs, 02/26/1970. Next of kin has been notified.


Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a male at 521 Apt. 1, Alpha Street.  The victim's next of kin has not been notified; once notification has been made, his name will be released.

Providence Division officers responded to the victim's apartment in reference to a shots fired call at 10:09 p.m., on Sunday, October 27, 2008.  Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from at least one gun shot wound.  The victim was pronounced deceased on scene shortly before 10:30 p.m.    

Homicide Detectives with the aid of Providence Division Officers have been canvassing the surrounding neighborhood and have determined that this is a domestic violence related shooting.  There is no reason to believe that this is a random act of violence.  Homicide Detectives have identified a suspect.  Once warrants are signed his name will be released.  The male suspect is believed to have fled the scene in a 1990's model burgundy Cadillac sedan. 

Crime Scene Search is currently on scene collecting physical evidence.
