Another of CMPD's "Most Wanted" in Custody

August 4, 2008

Acting on a CrimeStoppers tip, this morning CMPD officers located and arrested LaQuail Jerome Wallace (DOB: 11-25-1980) on outstanding warrants for armed robbery and kidnapping. Wallace and two other suspects entered a house on June 16, 2008 and at gunpoint, robbed the resident of their vehicle. CMPD Robbery detectives are continuing to investigate the case to determine the identities and whereabouts of the other two suspects.

Early today (Monday, August 4, 2008),  North Tryon division officers received the CrimeStoppers tip information that Mr. Wallace was in a room at the Roadway Inn at Sugar Creek and I-85. They established a containment area around the motel and contacted CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) for assistance and surveillance.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., when Mr. Wallace exited the room and got into a vehicle, VCAT along with the Helicopter and K9 units followed. North Tryon and Freedom division officers also assisted with the surveillance and apprehension.

At Carlyle Drive off Ashley Road and Alleghany Street in the Freedom Division, the suspect jumped and ran from the vehicle in which he had been riding. The Helicopter Unit was able to keep Mr. Wallace in sight and after a short foot pursuit, officers took him into custody without incident.

Mr. Wallace was featured on CMPD's website (cmpd.org) and WCNC profiled him last week as part of a new series it launched to spotlight wanted suspects and he was featured in last week's The Slammer newspaper.
