Why I Am a Reserve Officer. . .

The following is a testimonial from the current Reserve Commander of the CMPD Reserve Unit:   Ted Cormier – serving the CMPD and our community since 1990

"I began my career with the Charlotte Police Department in 1990, where I had my first experiences in the West Charlotte then Adam 3 District. It was in 1999 I left the full time employ of the City Of Charlotte, and ventured out into the "Real World" where I now work for the Microsoft Corporation.

"It was through my full time career with the CMPD that I gained the skills necessary to make such a drastic move to the private sector. I was reluctant to leave my career at the CMPD as I felt there was more work that needed to be done. The CMPD reserves afforded me the opportunity to continue my personal challenge of continuing to provide support and assistance to our communities, while also pursuing other career goals.

"I have always felt it important to actively participate in the community where you live. By participating in a local church, civic or other groups like the CMPD Reserves you will see these participatory efforts build a community, making it strong against the influences of today's society. My heart felt belief is, if each of us actively participate in our communities by giving back whatever we can [and more then just words] then the community becomes a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

"Personally I chose to give back to our community by volunteering with the reserves. I use the skills and abilities I have from my number of years on a full time officer to help the CMPD meet challenges our communities are faced with. Each of us has unique skills and abilities. These are what make our community so vibrant, and I wanted to make sure that I do what I can to help make the Charlotte region the best place to be."
