Reserve Unit-About Us

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Reserves
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Reserve Unit is a volunteer organization comprised of individuals from within the community that through unselfish dedication supplement the current full time law enforcement needs and efforts within the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County North Carolina.

The mission of the CMPD Reserves is the same as the CMPD.
"Building Partnerships To Prevent The Next Crime"

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will build problem-solving partnerships with our citizens to prevent the next crime and enhance the quality of life throughout our community, always treating people with fairness and respect.

WE VALUE:
   - Partnerships
   - Open Communication
   - Problem-solving
   - People
   - Our Employees
   - Integrity
   - Courtesy
   - The Constitution Of North Carolina
   - The Constitution Of The United States

The members of the Reserves exemplify this mission, as they have built the best partnership with the community. As members of the community, working regular full time jobs at companies like Microsoft, The Carolina Panthers, the City of Charlotte, they continue to build additional bridges with the communities we serve.

All of the Reserve Police Officers are sworn law enforcement officers. Some of our reserves are retired or have left from their full time law enforcement careers at the CMPD or even the N.C. State Highway Patrol. Those not coming from within the law enforcement community have completed the North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training [BLET] Program. This grants the reserves the same powers and authority of the CMPD's full time officers.

The unit consists of Sworn and Non-Sworn personnel. The support role they provide the CMPD has them delivering over 10,000 hours of volunteer time to supplement of the needs of the CMPD. The Reserves provide service from basic law enforcement support in Road Patrol assignments, to assistance with "Cold Case" investigation in our Felony Investigations Unit.

The unit's members have individual strengths, which are leveraged through the service they provide our community. Each member of the Reserves identifies the area they feel they can be of most service, and benefit. Then the Reserve Officers are called upon to supplement in other areas identified by the CMPD, as needed. This affords the Reserves and the CMPD the most flexibility in providing the operational support assistance.

Should you be interested in becoming a CMPD Reserve Officer you may contact either:

Reserve Captain Larry Miller at lmiller@cmpd.org , or the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Reserve Officer Recruiter  Officer Alex Watson, Recruiting Investigator, at awatson@cmpd.org 704-432-1613.
