CMPD Women Speak About Their Careers

Vicki Foster began her career in 1991 as a member of the 106th recruit class. She was recognized as the "Community Officer of the Year" in 1999. Her policing experience includes six years of service as a community police officer, a shift sergeant in the Adam Two Patrol District and the Fraud Unit. Vicki earned her B.A. Degree in Psychology from UNCC where she minored in Criminal Justice. She has a Masters in Business Administration from Pfeiffer University. Vicki was promoted to Captain in March 2003, serving in the Westover Division and the Family Services Division.  Vicki was promoted to Major in September 2007 and now serves in the Community Services Bureau.  She enjoys travel and selling real estate. Vicki says, "Use your mind to promote yourself on this job. Be confident, yet unafraid to seek advice."

 

 Valencia "Kay" Rivera was hired as police officer in 1990 as a member of the 99th recruit class. Kay has served as the Asian Liaison for the department, as a community policing coordinator, as a School Resource Officer,a Juvenile Detective and is now in the Recruitment Division.  Kay previously worked with various federal agencies to combat child pornography and Internet crimes against children.

Sabrina Stinson was a member of the 116th recruit class when she joined the department in 1994. She currently is a member of the Westover Division. Past assignments have included Field Training Officer, Community Policing Coordinator, Homicide Task Force and undercover work with her agency and other law enforcement agencies. Sabrina has received her AAS degree and is currently working on a BS degree at UNC Charlotte. She enjoys reading, travel, exercising, and socializing with friends and family.  Sabrina believes that, "There is no strength, where there is no struggle."

 

 

 

Freda Lester joined the department in 1989 and, since then, has worked in Patrol as a Field Training Officer and a Community Policing Coordinator. Freda received the Community Relations Award, a Medal of Valor, the Rotary Officer of the Year, and the Alpha Phi Alpha Community Woman of the Year. As a Sergeant, Freda worked in the Westover Division.  As a Captain, Freda works in the University Division.

 

Regina Neely joined the police department in 1990 as a member of the 100th recruit class. She is currently a Burglary Southwest /Westover Division investigator. Prior to this assignment Regina was a security officer at the West Service Area/Freedom Division, a Community Policing Coordinator for 10 years and also was the domestic violence Liaison Officer for the district.

 

Evonne "Ed" Galloway received the Physical Fitness Award for the 95th recruit class in 1989. She has worked in several Patrol Districts as a Field Training Officer.  She was a Community Policing Coordinator for the Metro Division for 5 ½ years and now works as a Detective in Burglary East/Eastway Division.

 

Tonya Arrington works in the Eastway Division as a Sergeant and she is also a member of the SWAT Team.  She received her BS in Criminal Justice from UNCC, after which Tonya began her career in 1996 as a member of the 123rd recruit class. She is married and her interests include softball, tennis and blading. Tonya says, "Respect from your male peers will come if you do your job, remain open, are willing to learn and stay true to yourself."
