Sexually Oriented Business Unit
|
The SOB detective is responsible for regulating, educating and completing a monthly inspection of all Sexually Oriented Businesses (Adult bookstores, Adult live entertainment businesses, etc.) in the City of Charlotte. Periodic visits to these establishments are made to ensure compliance with city ordinance in an effort to promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens.
Sexually Oriented Businesses are not permitted to operate without a valid sexually oriented business license. An application for permit must be submitted by the owner of the business to the Chief of Police through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Vice and Narcotics Division. Once a completed application is received a detective will conduct a permit investigation on the business and the findings are presented to the Chief of Police for review and recommendation. Within thirty (30) days after receipt of a completed application, the Chief of Police will approve or deny the issuance of a license.
Upon issuance of a license, a yearly paid permit is issued to the business and it is unlawful for any person to operate or cause to be operated a Sexually Oriented Business without license.
