The mission of the Criminal Intelligence Unit is to identify, collect, analyze, verify, and disseminate criminal or potentially criminal information to enable a proactive and appropriate response to criminal activity in our community. The Criminal Intelligence Unit values positive relationships with our citizens, federal, state, and local law enforcement.
The Criminal Intelligence Unit will provide support to all functions of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and serve as an information clearinghouse. Each project, task, or investigation will be conducted with consideration of the effect on the citizens for which we serve.
The Criminal Intelligence Unit is committed to a pro-active stance on terrorism. Any identified terrorist organization or individual engaging in terrorist support, acts, or plans will be fully investigated and targeted for prosecution. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department maintains active participation in the North Carolina Joint Terrorism Task Force (NCJTTF), with personnel from the Criminal Intelligence Unit assigned either part-time or full-time to the task force.
The Criminal Intelligence Unit also serves as a support unit and agency liaison for VIP visits to this jurisdiction.
