Juvenile Offenders and Victims
The Juvenile Victims and Juvenile Offenders units are part of the Family Services Division of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. The Information on this site is designed to answer some of the questions you may have about the Juvenile system and to provide an overview of how these cases are defined and handled within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.   This section also provides contact information for the various organizations in the community that assist with juvenile issues.

The Juvenile Victims Unit investigates specific crimes involving juvenile victims (under the age of sixteen) with adult suspects (over the age of sixteen).

The Juvenile Offenders Unit investigates specific crimes involving suspects that are under the age of sixteen.  The victims in these cases can be of any age.

Make A Difference In The Life Of A Child

Child abuse must be prevented, and with your help, it can be.  You CAN Make A Difference… If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, Make A Difference and protect the child from further abuse.  Call your local Child Protective Agency - in Mecklenburg County, call 704-336-CARE.

You CAN make a difference:

  • Help a friend, neighbor, or relative if they are having difficulty with their family. Be a nurturing parent!
  • Get involved – advocate for services to help families.
  • Volunteer at a local child abuse prevention program.
  • Help to develop parenting resources at your local library or community center.
  • Ask for help if you need it!
