District Attorney Liaison Unit

The District Attorney Liaison Unit is a specialized unit comprised of nine Charlotte Mecklenburg Police detectives, four Mecklenburg County Sheriff investigators, an office assistant and one sergeant. The unit's role is to provide support to the District Attorney's Office in preparing cases for trials in Superior Court and Domestic Violence Court. A tremendous amount of resources are utilized in locating and subpoenaing victims, witnesses and officers for upcoming trials.

The unit is also tasked with, but not limited to, managing Grand Jury subpoenas, managing the Parole Accountability Committee, tracking felony case papering, conducting warrant "no-issue" investigations, assisting with interstate compacts and assisting prosecutors with meeting discovery requirements.

The unit works as a liaison between the District Attorney's Office and all local and state law enforcement agencies within Mecklenburg County. The goal of this unit is to provide the best support possible to prosecutors for successful prosecution of cases. The members of the unit are assigned to prosecutorial teams within the District Attorney's office. Listed below are the members of the unit and the teams they are assigned.

Subpoena Service for 2007
  • The unit was assigned 9,605 cases to locate and serve individuals to appear and testify in superior court, juvenile court, domestic violence court and courts located in other states around the country via Inter-State compacts.
  • The unit issued 18,728 subpoenas.
  • The unit had an 85% success rate serving 15,992 subpoenas out of the 18,728 issued.
  • The unit served 5,742 subpoenas to local law enforcement officers within Mecklenburg County.
  • The unit served either by phone or in person 10,250 civilian subpoenas to victims and critical witnesses.
