On January 15, 1987, Officer Robert Smith responded with other officers to a call on Spyglass Place in reference to shots fired into a condominium complex. While Officer Smith was searching for the source of the shots, a suspect opened fire on Smith, fatally wounding him. Officer Smith
was 27 years old.
