Timothy Street
Conviction: Second Degree Murder
Doc #: 0925816
Parole Review Date: 3-2-07
Sentence: 9 yrs.
Has served: 11 months to date

Crime Story:
On August 18th 1989 the victim was reported missing by family members.  The victim was sixteen, had been known to be a runaway and she danced in a topless bar in Charlotte.  On November 11th, 1989 the victim's skeletal remains were found in a wooded area in Charlotte.  Her body was so badly decomposed that the medical examiner could not rule on a cause of death only that foul play was probable.

Timothy Street was a Yellow Cab driver during this period and was the last person seen with the victim while she was alive.  According to witnesses he had picked her up at the lounge where she worked and was to take her to a frat party for another dance.  Street left Charlotte after the discovery of the victim's body.

The case remained cold for several years until the advancement of DNA evidence analysis.  When the DNA from this case was compared to a criminal data base Timothy Street's DNA was a hit.  He had been serving time in Florida for felony charges and his DNA was in the national data base.

Detectives from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department traveled to Florida and questioned Street about the victim's murder however he denied killing her.  Street was charged with the victim's murder and pled guilty to Second Degree Murder as part of a plea deal.  Because the murder occurred in 1989 and during Fair Sentencing laws Street was only given 9 years for his sentence.  He is eligible for release in 2008.
