Crime Story
On the 28th of April 1989, a group of students that were apart of the Debonair Social Club from West Charlotte High School held a party with the intention to ease tensions between them and another group known as the Elements of style from West Mecklenburg High School. A crowd of students at the party began to scatter as Eric McClain and other members of the Elements of Style began firing their guns.

A witness stated that McClain was firing his pistol wildly in the direction of the crowd of students when the victim grabbed McClain's arm with the gun. The victim struggled with McClain and attempted to disarm him. When the victim lost his grip on McClain's arm with the gun, McClain shot him in the chest. The victim died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.

A jury found Eric McClain guilty of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to LIFE in prison.
