Crime Story
Rodney Jenkins, George Harris and Stanley Bennett had been on a running streak of robberies and assaults during the period between 1-10-86 and 9-3-86. They had robbed stores and gas stations all over Mecklenburg County.

On 8-10-86 they entered the Circle K at 4126 Wilkinson Blvd. where victims #1 and #2 were working. Harris who was 15 at the time, had a handgun and demanded money from the clerks. Jenkins would later say to the police that Harris got nervous and told victim #2 he would blow her head off if she did not open the register for him. Jenkins said that she was petrified with fear and did not open the register. He said he didn't want any part of a shooting and he left the store. He stated that he heard several shots after he left and Harris came running out of the store and told him to start the car and drive.

Harris had fatally shot both victim #1 and #2 for the money in the register. This story is the one told by Jenkins. Victim was found inside the store and victim #2 was found outside at the rear of the store with a gunshot wound to her head. It is unclear how she was shot outside. They both died from their injuries at the scene. The group was caught weeks later as a result of other robberies and all were charged with the murders of victim #1 and #2.

Bennett's case was dismissed because he planned to testify for the state. Harris was sentenced to LIFE after a plea deal and Jenkins also pled to Second Degree Murder and received LIFE for his part in the crime.
