Crime Story
On the 18th of March 1992, patrol officers arrived at the victim's apartment to discover him lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of his own blood. Officers also observed that the victim's neighbor, Dwayne Jenkins, had blood on his hands, shirt, pants, and shoes. Jenkins advised officers that he saw the victim's door had been left ajar, went inside after he knocked on the door and discovered him lying on the kitchen floor in blood with a landscape rock under his head. He heard the victim ask about his glasses and unsuccessfully tried to help him get to his feet. He then ran to the apartment manager to get them to call the police. Once investigators arrived on the scene, they immediately recognized the blood on Dwayne's shirt and pants to be impact blood splatters and collected his clothing as evidence.

The victim had just accepted a job offer with the US Forrest Service in Oregon. A neighbor advised that he had seen the victim and Dwayne in the parking lot on the 17th of March arguing over money. On the day of his murder, the victim had packed his vehicle to visit with family in Vermont before he started his new job in Oregon. He died from blunt trauma to the back of the head. The medical examiner estimated that he suffered 15 blows to the back of head.

Dwayne Jenkins pled guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to spend to rest of his life in prison.
