Crime Story
On July 11, 1993 at approximately 3:27 am Daniel Hernandez, Patsy Jones and three other male Hispanic friends were eating at the Waffle House on Mulberry Church Rd.  Victim #1 and victim #2 were also at the Waffle House and began to make racial remarks directed at Hernandez and Jones.

The group of individuals involved had all been drinking and a verbal argument ensued.  Jones and Hernandez left the business and went to Jones's vehicle which was in the parking lot and retrieved two handguns from the trunk.  Jones and Hernandez walked back into the Waffle House to confront victim #1 and victim #2.  The waitress at the business had phoned 911 and told victim #1 and #2 to stay inside because the police were in route.  Hernandez approached victim #1 and according to witnesses victim #1 struck Hernandez in the face.  Hernandez pulled out the weapon he was carrying and shot victim #1 twice.  Hernandez then shot victim #2 who was nearby.

Jones, Hernandez and the other Hispanic males left the business before the police arrived.  Victim #1 died on the scene from his wounds and victim #2 was transported to the hospital where he recovered.  Hernandez pled guilty to Second Degree Murder and received a fifty year sentence.  Jones pled guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter for her part in the crime and has served her ten year sentence.
