Conviction: Second Degree Murder Parole Review Date: 3-2-06 Sentence: LIFE Has Served: 15 yrs 4 mths to date
|
Crime Story: On December 12, 1989 at approimately 6:20 p.m. the victim, who was a real-estate agent, left the model home she had been working in and walked to her Jeep parked nearby. James Green was a 19 year old high school student who had been charged in the past with auto theft and breaking into vehicles.
On this night he had been watching the model home from a wooded area and had waited for dark in order to roam through the area looking for cars to break into to or take. In a confession to police Green stated that he saw the victim's Jeep and walked up to it and got in after finding an unlocked door.
He removed six dollars from a purse that was on the seat inside. He found a 9mm handgun in a vehicle earlier that day and had it in his possession. While Green was in the victim's Jeep she came out of the model home. Green ducked down out of sight while the victim approached her vehicle. When she got around to the driver's side of the Jeep she saw Green hiding in the vehicle and began to scream, "Help, Help!"
Green stated that her screaming frightened him and he shot her twice with the 9mm handgun he had. She fell to the ground behind the Jeep and he said he got out and checked on her. He stated he felt bad because he had shot her and put the six dollars back in her vehicle over the sun visor.
Green ran from the area back to his come approximately a half mile away and went to sleep. The victim died in the driveway of the model home and police were later able to develop Green as their suspect. Green pled guilty to Second Degree Murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
