On February 23, 1981, Coy Devore borrowed the thick end of a cue stick from a friend and went next door to the victim's house. He was attempting to break into her house by going through a window when the victim pulled her vehicle into the driveway.

As the victim exited her vehicle, he ran up behind her and began hitting her with the pool cue stick. When the victim fell to the ground, he picked up a cinder block and struck her in the head with it. He then dragged her body to a ditch that was behind the house. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. She died from severe head injuries.

Coy Devore pled guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.
